Job Position: Senior Software Engineer
Position Location: Houston, TX

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop, debug and test mathematical and statistical analysis functions used in Visual Numerics’ software products.
  • Contribute to product goal documentation regarding planning and scheduling activities for product releases.
  • Review current product capabilities and make recommendations to enhance program performance.
  • Provide technical leadership and training as well as write and review documentation as required.
  • Occasionally perform consulting or technical product support role. Audience members include company prospects, customers, and/or internal personnel.
  • Research and stay abreast of latest technical environments and languages.

Business and Technical Competencies:

  • Must possess the ability to read, interpret, and perform software development activities including research, programming (Java, C. C# and Fortran on UNIX and/or Windows environments), consulting, and documentation.
  • Utilize necessary communication skills (verbal and written) to perform above tasks as well as working with internal and external personnel as required.

Education & Training:
Masters degree in Computer Science, with Mathematics, Engineering, or Physics background.

Work Experience:
A position of this level typically requires six or more years experience developing and designing software products and applications. Parallel Computing and Numerical Analysis experience is necessary to be effective in this position. Statistical experience is preferred and Financial Analysis is a plus. Previous experience utilizing multiple platforms (UNIX/Windows) and multiple language (C, C++, Java, FORTRAN, shell programming) is highly desired.

  • Maintain and test existing products.
  • Write and review documentation as required.

  • Research and stay abreast of statistical developments in specific company environments.

Education & Training:
Masters Degree in Statistics required, PhD in Statistics preferred.

Work Experience:
Experience in assorted fields among Bayesian Statistics, CART, Genetic Algorithms, Neural Networks, Modeling, and Simulation is required. In addition, experience developing software applications utilizing statistical algorithms is also necessary to be effective in this position. Previous experience utilizing multiple platforms (UNIX/Windows) and multiple language (C, C++, Java, FORTRAN, shell programming) is highly desired.
